Serbia’s Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic believes that majority of states will be on Serbia’s side during voting for the UN General Assembly president. He told Tanjug that the position would be a great affirmation not only of Serbia but also of the entire region. FM believes “majority will support his UNGA bid” “Everybody can hear you from that positions, there is not a single door that is not open to you and this would be an extremely good opportunity when it comes to promotion of Serbia’s state interests but also for the region,” the minister explained. He stressed that Serbia in the previous years had to stand up to some very powerful countries in order to defend its territorial integrity but that those countries now respected Serbia. “The way, the commitment and the energy of our foreign policy have led us to the point that today there are not those who do not respect us, even if they do not agree with us,” Jeremic noted. He also assessed that this would be visible during voting for the UNGA president. The Serbian foreign minister yesterday had several bilateral meetings with representatives of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states in the UN headquarters. He is expected to hold meetings with representatives of Caribbean states tomorrow. The foreign minister will meet with ambassadors of more than 40 countries by Friday. Aside from Serbia, Lithuania also has its candidate for the UNGA president and voting should be held by mid-June. Vuk Jeremic (FoNet, file) Tanjug
