Serbia's Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic says that the government “will absolutely stay on the EU and Kosovo course“. He added that both the EU and Kosovo policy had not failed. PM: Govt. continues its "both Kosovo and EU" policy “I see the postponement of the EU candidate status and currently poor economic situation and crisis in the EU only as an episode of a long-term process. It is logical for Serbia to strive toward the EU as its natural destination and not to renounce a part of its territory. I believe that those are strong enough arguments,“ the prime minister stressed. Cvetkovic said that it would not be difficult to run the government during the upcoming election campaign and added he expected a “fair and positive campaign“. The PM pointed out that his government had solved many “inherited“ problems and that it “has achieved enormous results in the reform sense“. “I took the office practically ahead of the very beginning of the biggest world crisis and I have to admit that it was extremely difficult to work in such circumstances. We took appropriate measures and I can say now that we have managed to avoid the worst-case scenario which unfortunately happened in much more developed countries than Serbia,“ he explained. Cvetkovic said that the government expected the economic growth to be 1.5 percent in 2012, adding it was a “success“ and that the main driving force of the economic growth were investments. “This is precisely why we will pay a great attention to attraction of direct foreign investments in 2012. We are intensively negotiating with large world investors and expect a positive outcome of these talks. Serbia will finish this year as a regional leader when it comes to attraction of direct foreign investments,“ the PM concluded. Mirko Cvetkovic (Tanjug, file) Beta
