Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert said Tuesday he expected an investigation into the organ trafficking allegations in Kosovo to begin soon. He told Tanjug that chief prosecutor and head of the EU special investigation team John Clint Williamson should visit Serbia within the following two weeks and that the actual operation should commence very soon after that. “Organ trafficking investigation to begin soon” When asked why it had taken so long to launch the investigation, Degert said that the formation of the team was a serious work, as it had been necessary to find suitable people who had to leave their usual jobs and to become familiar with the case of organ trafficking in Kosovo. He stressed the team would during the investigation cooperate with Council of Europe Special Rapporteur Dick Marty, who compiled the report on the organ trafficking. “However, we must now move from allegations to evidence, which is not an easy job at all,” Degert pointed out. Marty's report, published in 2010, accused the ethnic Albanian KLA of kidnapping Serb and other non-Albanian civilians in the province in 1999-2000, illegally imprisoning them, and harvesting their vital organs for sale in the black market.
