The misdemeanor trial of Trade Minister Slobodan Milosavljevic at a request of the state auditor (DRI) will begin today before a Belgrade court. This is the first hearing in the case of unlawful spending of money from the state budget. Minister in court over “budget misdemeanor” The misdemeanor charge concerns “Serbia – the Danube Basin” project. According to the state auditors’ assessment, the project was not supposed to be financed from the funds intended for creation and positioning of Serbia’s national brand but from other budget items. Milosavljevic said ahead of the trial today that prepared his defense as soon as he received the charges, and that he would prove that the ministry he is heading had the right to spend the money. The state auditor filed misdemeanor charges against 19 state officials in February, among others against six current and five former ministers. They are suspected of violating the Budget System Law and the envisaged fine is up to RSD 50,000 (EUR 500). Charges were filed against Slobodan Milosavljevic, Goran Bogdanovic, Zarko Obradovic, Tomica Milosavljevic, Nebojsa Bradic, Oliver Dulic, Sasa Dragin, Predrag Bubalo, Slobodan Samardzic, Zoran Loncar and Vojislav Brajovic. According to the state auditors’ assessment, the project was not supposed to be financed from the funds intended for creation and positioning of Serbia’s national brand but from other budget items.

Milosavljević said ahead of the trial today that prepared his defense as soon as he received the charges, and that he would prove that the ministry he is heading had the right to spend the money.
