United Serbia (JS) President Dragan Markovic Palma said that Serbia citizens will be European Union citizens very soon, and called for optimism. He said that three good things happened to Serbia at the end of this year – visas were abolished, the interim trade agreement was unfrozen and the application for EU candidacy was submitted. JS leader: Serbia on fast track to EU Markovic reminded that his party, which is part of the ruling coalition, stated at its election assembly, "attended by 14 ambassadors", that it had a "great role in forming the pro-European government and these three good things that happened to Serbia and the Serbian citizens at the end of the year". “All three of these things show that the doors of the EU are open to Serbian citizens and that the Serbian citizens will be in the EU very soon, where we belong,” he said, adding that these recent events will have more than just positive economic effects on Serbia. “It is important that we will be users of various EU funds, because without international money, there is no economic progress for Serbia,” Markovic said. “Our pre-election promises included EU candidacy, and if you asked people in Serbia, including officials of large parties, three months ago, if we would achieve these three things, they probably would have said – no,” he added.
