Đukanović re-elected head of Montenegro ruling party

Đukanović, 46, ruled Montenegro for over a decade, steering the republic through the turbulent years that followed the breakup of Yugoslavia in early 1990s.

Đukanović resigned the premiership soon after the republic proclaimed independence following the 2006 referendum, but said he would remain at the party helm and turn to business.

In his address to party colleagues, Đukanović said that in the aftermath of Montenegro’s restored independence DPS’s was primarily oriented towards providing European life standards for its citizens.

DPS on Saturday pledged in a statement to turn Montenegro into a country similar to "the richest and most democratically developed" nations.
