Karadžić trial continues

After a two-week recess, the Hague Tribunal trial of former Republic of Srpska president Radovan Karadzic continues this week. The Tribunal approved Karadzic’s request for a two-week recess in order for the defense to listen to cassette tapes of conversations with Hague fugitive Ratko Mladic, which where made without Karadzic’s knowledge. Karadzic trial continues Karadzic, who is defending himself, will also be cross-examining witness Ekrem Suljevic, who gave his testimony in July. The witness was a member of the police team that implemented investigations of explosions in Sarajevo in which civilians died during the war. He testified that the results of these investigations showed that the shells were fired at Sarajevo civilians from locations where the Republic of Srpska army was stationed around the city. Karadzic is accused of terrorizing the citizens of Sarajevo with a campaign of artillery and sniper attacks on civilian buildings between 1992 and 1995. He is also accused of genocide in Srebrenica and eight other Bosniak municipalities, ethnic cleansing against non-Serbs in Bosnia, and taking international hostages.

Karadžić, who is defending himself, will also be cross-examining witness Ekrem Suljević, who gave his testimony in July.
