A retired colonel who last December fatally injured a boy in a traffic accident in Leskovac was today found guilty and sentenced to 3.5 years in jail.

A retired colonel who last December fatally injured a boy in a traffic accident in Leskovac was today found guilty and sentenced to 3.5 years in jail. Tests showed that Zoran Marjanovic (53), had 2.12 permilles of blood alcohol when he hit the 8-year-old with his car. The legal limit in Serbia is 0.5 permilles. Marjanovic was not present in the court today when the verdict was read. The victim's father, Bojan Stanojevic, expressed his indignation with the sentence, passed by the District Court in Leskovac, southern Serbia, and announced he would lodge an appeal with the Supreme Court of Serbia, describing the punishment as "lenient". "This ruling of the court is incomprehensible. Is this what a young life is worth?," the father was quoted as saying.

Marjanović was not present in the court today when the verdict was read.
