Igor Milosevic, the former vice-consul to Serbia’s General Consulate in New York, has been taken into custody. The arrest was authorized by the Republic Prosecutor’s Office. Vice-consul in Kovacevic affair arrested Milosevic was arrested on suspicion of abuse of office when issuing a temporary passport to runaway Serbian student Miladin Kovacevic, said prosecution spokesman Tomo Zoric. Kovacevic was released on bail pending trial for assaulting an American student. Upon his release, his passport was confiscated by the New York court to prevent him leaving the country. However, Milosevic is believed to have illegally issued the fugitive student with temporary documents allowing him to leave the U.S. and return to Serbia Zoric said that the suspect would be kept in police custody for 48 hours. “He will then be brought before the investigative judge at the Belgrade Second Municipal Court, who will question him, before deciding whether to conduct an investigation and accept the prosecution’s motion to remand him in custody,” the spokesman explained.

Vice-consul in Kovačević affair arrested

Milošević was arrested on suspicion of abuse of office when issuing a temporary passport to runaway Serbian student Miladin Kovačević, said prosecution spokesman Tomo Zorić.

Kovačević was released on bail pending trial for assaulting an American student. Upon his release, his passport was confiscated by the New York court to prevent him leaving the country. However, Milošević is believed to have illegally issued the fugitive student with temporary documents allowing him to leave the U.S. and return to Serbia

Zorić said that the suspect would be kept in police custody for 48 hours.
