Bosko Brankovic was attacked on Thursday evening while filming a protest against the arrest of Radovan Karadzic organized by ultra-right wing groups and the Serb Radical Party (SRS). MUP Police Directorate Chief Milorad Veljovic said yesterday that his men had been working intensively to identify and track down the attackers. Human and Minority Rights Minister Svetozar Cilic said that he would be proposing legal amendments whereby journalists would receive a special protection system, and whereby MPs would have their mandates revoked if they were found guilty of breaching the Constitution or of unseemly conduct. In the meantime, state broadcaster RTS has decided to stop filming the protests in Belgrade. Editor-in-Chief Nenad Stefanovic stated that the decision would apply until he received assurances from the organizers that a section of the participants would stop spreading an atmosphere of hate towards journalists.
