A mobile belonging to SPS official Milorad Vucelic was used not far from the scene of Slavko Curuvije’s murder, says daily Blic. State Security (DB) operatives Ratko Romic and Miroslav Kurak used mobile phones near the crime scene and at the time of the daily Dnevni Telegraf owner’s murder, Blic understands from a source close to the investigation that is under way at the Special Court. SPS implicated in journalist murder? The two men had earlier been suspected of involvement in the murder. It has also been discovered that Vucelic’s mobile number was used. Blic’s source claims that a list of numbers called on April 11, 1999 when Curuvije was killed in front of the entrance to his building in Svetogorska Street, can be found at mobile phone sub-stations in central Belgrade. According to the list of calls, Romic used his phone not far from the scene of the murder. It was discovered that one other phone had also been used, though the identity of its owner had been unclear. It has now been confirmed that it belonged to Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) official Vucelic. “When questioned at the Special Court, Vucelic said that he had given the phone to Kurak, who had been one of his security guards at the time. That information was confirmed by Vucelic’s then secretary, who was also questioned,” says the daily’s source, adding that then DB deputy chief, Franko Simatovic, had sent Kurak to look after Curuvije.
