Serbia-made foodstuffs are highly represented on the shelves of the supermarkets in the countries of the region, a newspaper writes. Cookies and snacks produced here remain among the favorite in the Balkans, Belgrade daily Danas reports today. Serbian cookies and snacks – region’s favorite Products made in Serbia can be bought in the countries of the former Yugoslavia for almost the same price as in the stores in Serbia, claims the newspaper, and says that in Bosnia and Montenegro, that price is even lower. The prices of the Serbian products in domestic stores are, however, lower than in Slovenia and Croatia, Danas says. Although many consumers in the region are likely to buy domestic products, there are some Serbian brands that are ranked high on the most popular list, such as Jaffa Cakes and Plazma cookies, and Smoki snacks. The Crvenka-made Jaffa Cakes is the best selling brand in its category of products in Slovenia and Croatia, "and no other cookie can compete with it" – according to Slovenian Mercator retail chain manager Barbara Pastor Basa. The corn-and-peanut Smoki, produced by Belgrade's Stark company, fares the same in the snacks category. Croatia's supermarkets have a more diverse offer of Serbian products, which includes several brands of beer, bottled water and wine.
