Banks in Serbia successfully ended last year with a profit of RSD 23bn, Bank Association of Serbia Secretary General Veroljub Dugalic says. Total assets of the banks have now increased to between EUR 18 and 20bn, and their capital is higher than EUR 4bn, Dugalic said at the presentation of the Finansije Top 2007 publication of the Biznis Finansije magazine. The same gathering heard SMECA Insurance Director Lidija Vasic say that the structure of insurance in Serbia was still unfavorable, because just 11 percent of all premiums referred to life insurance. The market is still undeveloped, with the share of the insurance premium in the GDP at 1.8 percent, while this figure stands at up to 16 percent in European countries, Vasic said.
