Serbia wants to become a “mini superpower” in the energy domain, and for that it needs the help of Russia, says Bozidar Djelic. According to the deputy prime minister, technical and financial offers for RTB Bor would soon be opening where Russian company, Basic Element, would be participating. Meanwhile, a tender for Jat Airways would be announced by the end of the year, and offers would also start to be accepted for the construction of a new cargo center at Nikola Tesla Airport. Djelic: Russian capital welcome In the spring, Gasprom is due to decide on construction of an oil pipeline, added Djelic, stressing that Serbia was prepared to collaborate with the company to build an underground gas storage reservoir. The deputy prime minister repeated that there was also interest from Russian investors in the privatization of the Serbian Oil Industry, NIS, adding that the government would soon take a decision on which privatization model to adopt. Russian Federation Vice-President Aleksandr Zhukov says that Serbia is a key partner for Russia in the Balkans, particularly in terms of economic cooperation. According to Zhukov, the volume of trade between the two countries has risen 600 percent in the last six years. He said that Russian companies were interested in investing in the energy sector, the gas industry, pipeline construction and underground reservoirs, as well as in the privatization of NIS. Basic Element, added Zhukov, was ready to invest USD 1bn in modernizing RTB Bor, while Aeroflot was interested in Jat.
