The Interior Ministry counted 320,000 people at 291 events nationwide, including 70,000 in Paris, BFM and AFP reported on Sunday. That compares with 410,000 a week earlier and 550,000 on Oct. 17, a fall the ministry put at 22 percent in one week and 42 percent in two. The student and youth unions behind the marches, including UNEF and FAGE, gave their own figure of nearly 500,000, with 200,000 in Paris. The policing numbers fell too, but they remain large. The ministry reported 779 arrests over the day and the Halloween night that followed: 565 by 9 p.m., then 214 more in the evening. It counted 116 police and gendarmes injured during the protests, down from 267 the week before and 1,144 on Oct. 17, plus 43 more injured during Halloween night. Officers ran 40,000 checks across the country and handled 515 fires; 36 shops were damaged and three looted, against 69 damaged and 24 looted a week earlier. ⚠️ The most serious incident came at the end of the Paris march, at Porte de Charenton, where a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a group of police and gendarmes, lightly injuring at least one officer, EFE reported.(video below). Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the marches went well overall but that some rioters acted with "unprecedented violence" at the end, and Halloween night passed "without major incident," the ministry said, despite online calls by small far-left and radical groups to use it for violence.
