Tehran strikes another blow against the U.S.: "It has been captured" VIDEO

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Sunday that it had captured a U.S. underwater drone in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement carried by state broadcaster IRIB, the IRGC said that its naval forces had seized a “Remus 600,” an advanced unmanned underwater vehicle, which is currently “in the hands of its experts for information-gathering purposes.”

“The IRGC Navy firmly declares that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and that we are acting decisively and continuously against dangerous maneuvers and unauthorized passage through the strait,” the statement said.

The announcement came amid intense diplomatic efforts aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime chokepoint that Tehran closed in response to U.S.-Israeli attacks in February and the naval blockade of Iran.

 

In early September, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that it had seized a U.S. “Anduril Dive-LD” drone. Several weeks later, reports emerged that it had begun analyzing the drone in an effort to develop its own version.

The seizure of the U.S. underwater drone represents a new incident in an already highly tense situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime passages for global energy trade.
