The situation in Siviri and Skala Fourka, areas in Halkidiki that were affected by the wildfire, is currently calmer and the fire is under control, but the situation on the ground continues to be monitored.
Although the situation is better than during the most critical phase of the wildfire, the consequences are still being felt. Travelers planning to arrive tomorrow are therefore advised to contact their accommodation before setting off and check the situation in the specific area where they will be staying, according to posts on the popular Facebook pages Nikana and Grčkainfo.
According to tourists’ accounts, the situation is considerably calmer, but smoke and ash could still be felt in the air.
Firefighters from Thessaloniki also took part in battling the blaze, while tourists were evacuated as a precautionary measure. They added that some tourists have now been allowed to return to their accommodation, where they were able to rest and swim in the sea.
The safest approach is to follow updates from the relevant authorities and local officials and wait for the morning reports before deciding whether to travel.
For those already staying in Halkidiki, the most important thing is to follow the instructions of the authorities and avoid approaching areas affected by the wildfire.
Shocking scenes: Fire devastates forest
The massive wildfire that swept through Kassandra in Halkidiki on Thursday and reached the tourist resort of Siviri caused extensive damage.
The flames, fueled by strong winds, reached the coastal part of Siviri. Footage from the scene shows houses and buildings engulfed in flames, while thick smoke hangs over the tourist resort.
The situation is particularly dramatic as the wildfire approached the populated area, prompting authorities to issue multiple consecutive evacuation warnings.
In one of the most dramatic scenes of the day, tourists and local residents who were on the beach began evacuating by sea.
More than 300 people have already been safely transported from Siviri to Sani Marina, with a large number of vessels taking part in the operation, including Coast Guard boats, private vessels, fishing boats and a passenger tour boat.
