Apocalyptic scenes as scorching heat engulfs land; Raging wildfire spreads, destroying everything in its path

The wildfire on Paros has flared up again, Prototema reported.

According to information from the Coordination Center, firefighting efforts in Rethymno are being hampered by strong winds and difficult terrain, leading to repeated flare-ups and the continued spread of the flames.

Numerous firefighting crews from across the Crete region have been deployed to the area, including ground units and members of specialized firefighting teams. With support from heavy machinery on the ground, they are working to bring the blaze under control.

Residents of the affected villages, volunteers, water tankers, and construction machinery from the local authorities of Agios Vasileios, Amari, Rethymno, and southern Heraklion are also taking part in the firefighting efforts.

Due to the extremely high risk of new wildfires breaking out, authorities have introduced a temporary ban on traffic and public access in certain forest areas around Patras.

The ban is in effect from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and applies to several forest roads and protected areas. Permanent residents, employees, landowners, livestock farmers, and people using main roads are exempt from the restriction.
