The greatest efforts are focused on the area from Psatha to Loumpa, while experts warn that the hours after 1:30 p.m. are the most critical due to rising temperatures and falling humidity levels.

Deputy Fire Service spokesperson Giannis Artopios said that three main fire fronts remain active.

The first is located in the northeast, in the areas of Kryo Pigadi, Agia Paraskevi and Agios Nektarios.

The second and most challenging part of the operation stretches from Psatha to Loumpa, where the largest number of ground and aerial firefighting forces have been deployed.

The third front is located in the southeast, in the areas of Kandili and Agia Skepi.

According to Artopios, the greatest challenge comes during the periods after 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., when high temperatures and lower humidity create conditions for the fires to flare up again.

"Yesterday, we had a flare-up during that period. Today, we want to control it with aerial resources, with the support of 526 firefighters," he said.

The most active area at the moment is above Psatha, where firefighters are battling smaller but numerous hotspots that retain high temperatures and could become active again.

The fire has so far affected around 132,900 hectares in Attica and Boeotia, causing damage to homes, property, agricultural land and crops.

Around 450 firefighters with 126 vehicles, 22 groups of ground units, volunteers and water tankers are taking part in the firefighting effort.

Greek firefighting forces are being assisted by 46 firefighters from France and Romania, along with eight vehicles.

Aerial resources have also been deployed during the operation, including firefighting aircraft and helicopters.

The fire-affected area has been divided into three main sectors under the coordination of the Mobile Operational Center "Olympus."

Environmental protection engineering professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Demosthenes Sarigiannis, warned that the consequences of wildfires do not end when the flames are extinguished, but can continue for months.

He stated that wildfires seriously threaten ecosystems and biodiversity, especially in Mediterranean regions.

Sarigiannis also warned of the impact on wildlife, as fires endanger the populations of numerous species.

Speaking about air pollution, he noted that PM2.5 particle concentrations reached 190 micrograms per cubic meter, while the safety limit is 10 micrograms.

He added that the burning of vegetation, as well as homes, insulation, tires, electronic devices and photovoltaic systems, can lead to the release of harmful substances such as dioxins, hydrocarbons and heavy metals.
