Putin convenes emergency Security Council meeting VIDEO
Russian President Vladimir Putin has urgently convened a Security Council meeting over Kaliningrad, Belarusian media outlet NEXTA reports.
Red folders labeled "Top Secret" were placed in front of the Security Council members.
Such meetings are usually held on Fridays and via video link, but this time they convened in person on Wednesday.
Kaliningrad is considered one of the main potential flashpoints for a conflict between Russia and NATO. Putin has previously vowed to defend it "by all necessary means."
Moscow has repeatedly accused NATO of using military exercises—such as those led by the Joint Expeditionary Force—to simulate naval blockades and a potential seizure of Kaliningrad. In response, Russia has re-established the Leningrad Military District to strengthen its regional forces.
Tensions have escalated following statements by Baltic officials discussing the neutralization of Kaliningrad’s defense systems. Putin has issued a stern warning, stating that any direct military threat to Russian bases or air defenses would be met with a swift and devastating response.
