The peacekeeping mission has not yet provided details about the scale or duration of the incursions.

The Israeli army (IDF) announced yesterday that it had slightly expanded its “security zone” in southern Lebanon, adding new areas to five positions it has held there since the November 2024 ceasefire.

However, the IDF’s Northern Command stated that it is unlikely to launch a larger ground invasion of Lebanon at this time.

Instead, the expansion in southern Lebanon is intended to deter Hezbollah from any potential plans for an invasion. According to the IDF, Hezbollah could collapse without Iranian training and guidance.

It is also stated that the organization would be significantly weakened by losing access to Iranian funding, which has been almost its sole source of financing since the start of the war.

The Israeli military believes that all these factors combined could eventually lead to the Lebanese army disarming Hezbollah, although the group still retains certain levers of power, making the outcome unpredictable.

Speaking about Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel so far, the IDF said that most of the rockets fell into the sea or open areas.
