Shocking details revealed: Heated argument in Geneva; Senior official breaks pen in rage

Namely, Axios journalist Barak Ravid, who is extremely well-informed about the events in Geneva, published information regarding the developments leading up to the meeting, noting that verbal confrontations preceded the public statements made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, Andriy Yermak.

"During the meeting, the American side accused the Ukrainians of leaking negative information about Trump’s peace plan to the U.S. press. The Ukrainians agreed to issue a positive statement from one of their negotiators to clarify the situation. Later that day, the Ukrainian side presented a counterproposal with demands for amendments to Trump’s plan," said one source.

There are also reports that during the tense negotiations, when the Ukrainian delegation had to defend national interests against American attacks, Rustem Umerov sharply snapped a pencil in half in the midst of heated arguments.

Umerov serves as Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, having previously held the position of Minister of Defense.

The Ukrainian delegation met with teams from the U.S. and European allies under intense pressure from the White House to agree on a 28-point plan that critics say would reward Russia for its invasion with territorial and other concessions.

A few days before the talks in Geneva, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that his country might face a choice between losing its dignity or losing U.S. support.
