French police have neutralized a man who drew a knife at Paris’ Montparnasse train station, the Paris prosecutor’s office reported today.

In a statement, the prosecutor’s office said that an officer used his firearm to subdue the man, who then inflicted knife wounds on himself.

French media reported that at least one gunshot was heard prior to the incident.

A man was seriously injured during a police intervention at a train station in Paris after threatening his wife and children with a knife.

The incident occurred this afternoon when the suspect attempted to attack passengers before being subdued by police, reports Le Figaro.

According to police, the 44-year-old suspect arrived at Montparnasse station on a train from Rennes. He had previously been wanted for making death threats against his wife and children and had a history of domestic violence.

The Paris prosecutor’s office stated that the suspect was under investigation for domestic violence. Upon exiting the train, he held a knife to his own throat in the presence of police officers.

After attempting to attack passengers, he inflicted multiple knife wounds on himself. Confronted with a serious threat, police opened fire, injuring him in the legs.

During the incident, one woman sustained minor injuries to her leg, French media report.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, and the train station was partially evacuated to allow rescue operations. The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that at least two shots were fired during the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
