“Based on video footage that the family had the opportunity to see, Alon appears (…) generally well. He is standing on his own feet,” said Nikolić.

“The main focus, as far as we know for now, will be to preserve vision in the other eye and to carry out general rehabilitation. Of course, caution and patience are needed now, while waiting for information from the competent authorities responsible for this,” Nikolić told RTS.

Nikolić added that, in addition to the 20 hostages who were returned alive, 28 bodies of those who perished also need to be repatriated.

“Those who, unfortunately, did not survive this ordeal, which lasted two years and six days. And according to everything, including the first reports received from Hamas, this will not be accomplished today, because for a certain number of them—around eight, it is mentioned—we need to be extremely cautious; their exact locations are unknown. We must not forget that a significant portion of urban areas, towns, and villages within the Gaza Strip are in ruins,” Nikolić said.

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djurić, who is a relative of Ohel, celebrated his release on X.

"Joy, excitement, and pure happiness this incredible morning! Alon Ohel and his family are reunited after two years and five days in captivity. Thanks to everyone for their support, faith, and persistence. Special thanks to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and the Serbian government, the governments of Israel and Germany, and everyone else for their concrete support from the very beginning. A well-deserved heroic welcome for U.S. President Donald Trump in Tel Aviv," Djurić wrote.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić also commented, calling it the end of a "nightmare" and congratulating the release of the Israeli-Serbian citizen.

"Alon Ohel, you fought through 738 days of darkness and triumphed. Welcome home, dear friend—your strength inspires us all. Idit and Kobi, embrace your son. The nightmare is over. Serbia is grateful to Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, Steve Witkof, and Benjamin Netanyahu—the leaders who bring freedom when it matters most. Stability is the only way forward," Vučić wrote.

Alon Ohel was attending the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants attacked southern Israel.
