"I don't want Macron to resign"
Gabriel Attal, the head of the parliamentary group of the Renaissance Party, founded by the President of France, said today before his MPs that he doesn't support the resignation of Emmanuel Macron, unlike former French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe.
According to him, calling for an early resignation would undermine the entire democratic balance, reports Le Figaro.
Attal told his parliamentary group that he does not want the President of the Republic to resign, thereby distancing himself from Édouard Philippe, who had mentioned such a possibility, according to participants in the meeting.
“We will never join our voices with those who, morning, noon, and night, call for the resignation of the President of the Republic and for early presidential elections,” Attal declared.
He emphasized that if a democratically elected president, who has the legitimacy to serve his term, were forced to resign, the entire democratic balance would be called into question.
The leader of the far-right party National Rally (RN), Marine Le Pen, stated after the resignation of French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu that President Emmanuel Macron now faces only two options — resignation or the dissolution of parliament.
In a video posted on the platform X, Le Pen said that the first option “depends on the conscience of one man,” urging the president to engage in reflection and “perhaps an awakening,” which, she added, would be beneficial for France.
“As for the dissolution of parliament, it is an irreversible act and necessary to defend France’s interests, in order to overcome the current deadly stagnation,” Le Pen stated, promising a radically different course, reported TF1 television last night.
