Germany in Shock: Swarms of drones spotted; Among them a "Mother Drone"

According to Bild, last Thursday around 9 p.m., two small drones suddenly appeared over the ThyssenKrupp shipyard in Kiel, followed by more.

Now alarming details have emerged, as Der Spiegel reports that drones were also detected flying over vital state institutions.

Authorities are investigating whether the drones deliberately flew over critical infrastructure to conduct surveillance.

German media report that after the incident at the ThyssenKrupp premises, an entire drone network – including a so-called “mother drone” – hovered over Kiel University Hospital.

Shortly afterward, similar drones were spotted above a coastal power plant and the Kiel Canal.

Allegedly, drones also flew over the State House – the seat of the regional parliament – as well as over a refinery that, among other things, supplies jet fuel to Hamburg Airport.

An internal government memo, seen by Der Spiegel, described the drones’ flight paths as “parallel,” fueling suspicions that their purpose was to survey terrain and buildings.
