He informed the MPs that on Tuesday at 22:06 the army received the first reports about the launch of a massive air attack by Russia on Ukraine.

"Two F-35s, two F-16s, Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters and one 'Black Hawk' were dispatched to the intended area of ​​operations. Around 11:30 p.m., the first violation of the airspace over our country was recorded. The last one we recorded happened around 6:30 a.m.," he said.

He also explained that 19 incursions by Russian drones have been recorded so far.

"What is new in the worst sense of the word is the direction from which the drones arrived. This is the first time in this war that they did not come from Ukraine, as a result of mistakes or minor Russian provocations. For the first time, a significant part of the drones came directly from Belarus," he said.

Finally, he said that Poland will consult with all NATO allies.

"We will expect significantly more support during consultations, both under Article 4 and political consultations between the capitals. This is not our war. This is not only a war for Ukrainians. This is a confrontation that Russia has announced against the entire free world," the Polish Prime Minister concluded.

What is Article 4

Article 4 of the NATO agreement obliges all members of the Alliance to "urgent consultations."

This article, according to the NATO agreement, can be activated whenever a member state considers that its territorial integrity has been violated.

In addition, this article is considered a kind of step towards the activation of Article 5, which refers to the obligation of NATO members to defend any country in the Alliance that is attacked.

While Article 5 was activated only once, after the attacks on the USA on September 11, 2001, Article 4 was activated seven times.

The last time Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia did it was in February 2022, after Russia launched its aggression against Ukraine.

Article 4 was activated for the first time in 2003. It was activated by Turkey after the war in Iraq broke out.
