"At least 110 people are confirmed dead and more than 160 are missing," Texas Governor Greg Abbott said during a press conference Tuesday afternoon local time, CBS reports.

Rescue operations are underway for a fifth day to find everyone missing after a catastrophic storm hit Texas over the weekend and caused the Guadalupe River to rise to near-record levels. In Kerr County alone, 161 people are missing, Abbott said, and at least 12 people are missing in other parts of the state.

The vast majority of deaths, 87 of them, were reported in Kerr County. Among the victims are 27 girls and teachers from the Mystic summer camp for girls, which is located along the Guadalupe River, according to American television.

US President Donald Trump signed a federal disaster declaration at Abbott's request, allowing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to deploy teams to support local rescue efforts.

More than 20 state agencies are on the ground, Gov. Greg Abbott said, adding that rescue teams are continuing an intensive search for dozens of missing people in the affected areas.

Meteorologists announce that the weather conditions will calm down. Forecasts for today in that area indicate drier weather, and similar weather conditions are forecast for the rest of the week.
