In a post on Instagram, the students of the Fifth Belgrade Gymnasium stated that they expect the competition for a new principal to be announced soon after their decision.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Education announced that for teachers and students of all grades at the Fifth Belgrade Gymnasium who wish to work and attend classes, educational activities would be organized in the premises of two elementary schools in the Palilula municipality.

At the same time, the ministry emphasized that blocking the educational process and school operations is illegal, severely infringes on students’ right to education and employees’ right to work, and is certainly not an appropriate way to resolve outstanding issues.

They reminded that the acting principal of the Fifth Belgrade Gymnasium, Danka Nešović, was appointed for a fixed term to organize the educational process and conduct the public competition procedure for selecting a new principal, with the aim of normalizing the school’s operations.

The physical blockade of the Fifth Belgrade Gymnasium began on the evening of October 13, and the students blocking the entrance had demanded Nešović’s removal, the formation of a School Board, the election of a principal from among the staff, and the reinstatement of teachers who had worked at the school during the previous academic year.
