The Serbian excuse is just a smoke screen, Croatia needs a larger army in order to prepare for the eventual disintegration of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is obvious that Serbs and Croats in the region have absolutely no interest in living in a mini-Yugoslavia.

How does this gesture correspond with Francis and Kirill trying to reinstate Christian brotherhood and unity between the two faiths? A youth employment scheme for dalmatia and Slavonia would be a better option.

As bad as relations between Croatia and Serbia are, they are a vast improvement. This sort of politics is very predictable. The politicians have nothing to offer, so they blame every problem on the other side and scare people into thinking that war is just around the corner. If they really wanted to prevent poor relations, they would improve their nations economies so that the other side wants to trade with them and depends on their market and can't afford war with them. If Germany and France found a way to get along, why can't other countries do that too?

Non-serbs wrre overrepresented among high ranking military officials with the acception of Divjak and few other cases. Serbs actually needed chetnik thugs like Seselj and Arkan to boost their war effort to Greater Serbia, that is how bad JNA was. Todays Serbian army is a joke compared toJNA 25 years ago.
