Slovak FM explains his country's vote against Pristina's bid

Slovakia has made a excellent point...

Why should they vote on kosovo joining unesco when the albanians motives are purely political in nature... it has nothing to do with the cultural and historical sites in kosovo...

To be honest, the albainians do not give a dam about the churches in kosovo, they are only using the churches in kosovo as a politcal tool as a way to join an international institution... if kosovo was accepted into unesco, the churches in kosovo would not be any safer then they were yesterday from albainian attacks...

It really is a shame that we created unesco to protect centuries old buildings with history and culture and for what... so unesco can be used as a political tool for a group of people to be recognized in an international institution... this is really sad, the world certainly has changed and many if our institutions are being used for politcal purposes, not for the purpose for which they were created...

Brussels talks will include this - thus removing the needless waste of an attempt for Thaci or anyone else in Serbia's southern province to circumvent the state of Serbia. Yes UNESCO is already present in SERBIA - including its UN recognised southern province which will be re-affirmed in the continuation of non-status EU talks. Slovak Foreign Minister states this will continue between Serbia's capital institutions in Belgrade and it's local/regional institutions in Pristina. Of course Serbia continues to be constructive and stands forever on never recognising an illegal non-state though being open to ensuring all its citizens have a better life what ever their ethnicity.

I mean afterall the EU technocrats (especially German ones) have again and again stated Serbia is not being asked to illegally recognise a failed political US led initiative as a seperate state.

Oh what a tangled web we weave.....

There is no way the EU can enforce any such indecent proposal without entangling themselves in the biggest US inspired Sh@! to hit the fan in Europe - that was until US (dumb) foreign policy laid waste to much of the middle east once more and now floods of refugees flow straight to the heart of EU and to Merkel!

The type of lies and deceit such as "humanitarian wars", lies of WMD, lies of bringing "freedom & democracy" through or the lies of WMG (whereabouts of Mass Graves) where US officials and NATO spin masters lied of "100,000 ethnic Albanians missing presumed dead" due to Serbian army in its legitimate actions against known terrorists KLA.

I hate to disappoint you but that horse has not just bolted it’s disappeared altogether. If you could not get in now, it’s all over red rover. The US is so incompetent it could not organise a drink in a bar. I have never seen such gross ineptitude as what happened in UNESCO. Washington was totally unaware of what was going to take place during the vote. As one Arab diplomat said, I don’t know which is worse, to be an ally or an enemy of the US.
If you think that the US will be in a position to do the same in 2017, you’re going to be sadly disappointed. By that time the US will be 22 trillion down the rabbit hole.
Here is the problem for the EU. If they drag out the negotiations too long the Serbian people will turn their back on the EU regardless of how much Serb politicians sing the praise of joining. This is something the EU can ill afford. The EU will abandon you guys. Watch and see for yourself.
Personally I hope Serbia never joins the EU.

The Bobbsey twins made a deal with each other you support my fear I will support yours. But Slovaks got short changed it has to even support Serb fear of Albanians what a web a fear they are entangled in.

There have been enough mass graves uncovered and the fact that the bodies were moved to Serbia out of Kosovo is enough for the world to realize what happened. Even your hero Dick Marty stated that

That is some web you tend to weave Princi, but it is not based in reality and you can call Kosovo Serbia's southern province all you want but you know you have no power, no control, and never will. You barely could scrounge up 1/3 of the nations to support you.

I agree that his reasoning was very sound and I agree that the status of the Orthodox Churches do have to dealt with through dialog between Serbia and Kosovo.
But I disagree with him on the fact that UNESCO means more than those structures.
But waiting another 2 years will not hurt Kosovo. Maybe more progress can be made in the talks, but I do see a slow down for Serbia in Chapter 35 and its closure and the subsequent opening of new chapters, as Serbia itself has added a whole new huge subject to be tackled in the talks.
Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.

Because Czech republic recognized Kosovo? So they voted in favor. Slovakia doesn't so it voted against.

If you think Czech is 50 years before Slovakia, then do you locate Kosovo then? In mediaeval times, or in stone age?

What will be interesting is the difference in a breakaway of Catalonia, and Kosovo. Serbia was able to economically and infrastructurally destroy Kosovo before it was liberated and thus Serbia's efforts to keep it from progressing have worked to a point.
Catalonia has an intact infrastructure and is far better off financially than the rest of Spain. If it gains the international support Kosovo has Spain may cease to exist.

But waiting another 2 years will not hurt Kosovo. Maybe more progress can be made in the talks, but I do see a slow down for Serbia in Chapter 35 and its closure and the subsequent opening of new chapters, as Serbia itself has added a whole new huge subject to be tackled in the talks.
Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.
