He is right about one thing; the EU & NATO are two heads of the same beast and come as a package. The question now is does Serbia need either? NATO is leading the world into war with Russia & China, does Serbia need to join in that war? The EU is falling apart; just look at your neighbors Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania how are they fairing in the EU? Not very well; Greece is barely a state with no control at all over their economy, Bulgaria was forced to cancel South Stream which would have been extremely beneficial for them, again no control & no sovereignty. Croatia lives off of EU loans and tourism and their standard of living is going south. Is this what Serbia needs after all the devastation that NATO & the EU inflicted upon it?

Yesterday's threat in the Balkans was a radical Serbian expansionist policy intent on ceasing territory which was inhabited by other ethnic majority's
(non Serbian) be it Slovenes in Slovenia, Albanians in Kosova, be it Croats in Croatia or Bosnians in Bosnia, all these non Serb people's with the help of NATO and the international community put Serbia in check!!! Todays biggest threat is a new form of demon like Islamic radicalization, one which is being deployed by ISIS, which has its sights on every country of Southern Europe, be it Serbia, Albania, Croatia, Slovenia, Kosova, Greece, etc! In some of these country's this threat infiltrates much easier because some are more vulnerable because of many factors.
( economic, religious, political)
However, if the democratic forces of these Southern European country's, ones with a civilized mindset sit down and work & communicate with each other we can all be immune to this ISIS threat, and it can be easily defeated! Don't forget all of you Balkan brothers, even though we hold grudges & hatred toward each other at times, many times in our Balkan history we came together to fight against common threats, viciously!

There are Serbs who have went to Iraq as private security contractors willing to earn less than $30,000 per month for their service. Because of them and others that are willing to work less than what the US private security contractors ask for ($30,000) the pay has dropped drastically to the point that the original US contractors were no longer willing to risk going there for low pay. Serbia's army pays peanuts compared to private security contractors. Stop spreading false outlooks. A young person on the street can't join the professional Serb army immediately and be sent somewhere on a NATO mission. Stop impersonating Serbs.

It shouldn't be a problem since there are hundreds of poor young Serb men signing up for ISIS. It does not take much, understandibly, to buy a Serb who is destitute, as most are. I am being truthful unlike the many nationalists on B92 that are unsuccessfully attempting to whitewash the dire economic situation in Serbia.

Last count there were only 30 citizens of Serbia in it almost exclusively from the Muslim community (who across the Balkans, by the way, are less prone to joining ISIS than NATOs Muslim citizens). Comparably a similar number of Serbs have volunteered to fight as mercenaries in Donetsk.

Nah, I'd rather not join NATO and encourage Serbia's Muslim citizens to go join ISIS or convince a few more to join the Donetsk rebels out of Inat.

I like how some view Serbia as being in the crosshairs of Russia if it does not being subservient nation willing to jump higher than the echelons of NATO demand.

The reality is we are surrounded on all sides by NATO states and with some exception every state surrounding us has some kind of US military presence; or there are states pursuing a NATO lie. Literally Russia can't get into Serbia militarily without violating the airspace of several NATO nations in a way that is more serious than just buzzing into Norway's airspace or the like.

There is really no way Russia to harm NATO through Serbia as the extremist Russophobes in Serbia and outside claim too. No, the real threat to Serbia are the extreme NATOphiles who'd gladly use army recruits as cannon fodder on NATO missions and several neighbouring states who will use their roles in NATO and the EU to undermine Serbia.

Actually a good post, it is true that Serbia can enjoy most of the benefits just as it is doing now as a "partners in peace participant" Serbia does not need the membership at least now as there is no threat at present to Serbia by non NATO members or associates.
But I would also say that any thought of Serbia joining NATO should come only after much debate and thought on BOTH sides.
