There's nothing funnier than when Brussels lies so badly.

Caught short by their failure to make Russia accept the EU's Third Package energy rules despite South Stream being a TRANS-national energy project and TAP and others having exemption from the package, Brussels has been scrambling to find an credible policy.

Under the guise of 'diversification', Brussels pushed the East Ring project without doing its basic homework. Feedback from the pros on this project has been largely negative. That is why they have rowed back.

It's energy policy is little more than speak first, think later.

Yet again, Brussels cannot be trusted with fundamentally strategic issues related to the EU because they are not even incompetent. They are clueless.

If that wasn't a warning signal, despite all the failures such as EU monetary policy (and I won't even start on migration or the EU Blue Card system) etc, there are big political voice here calling for more federalization/centralization! A normal person would want the current major problems effectively addressed, but not my dear neighbors across the road.

I actually think the EU is good for Europe, but praying for better days is not a policy, nor is stuffing the EP with second hand politicians nor avoiding proper transparency (such as a list of lobbyists). I know quite a few people in this bubble and they do recognize the massive contradictions, but life here is just too good to rock the boat.

“in Italy we are not sure that Greece will be a good idea as a transit country”

If you believe that Yamal gas via Germany will be cheaper that Astrakhan gas via Turkey and Greece there’s nothing to talk about. See how the Germans embrace Europe with their nets of influence in every sphere. If you want to have a choice best if two routes are available. Besides Gazprom considers a direct pipe to Italy as one of the options.

"so really the EU arm twisting of Bulgaria to ditch south stream has just ended up by the EU shooting itself in the foot and saved Gazprom $45 Billion!"

Exactly. The guy with the gas calls the shots. Not the guy who wants the gas.

In time they'll have a dis-affected Eastern/Central Europe with no gas, poor, stunted, and economically under-developed.TAP does not have enough gas for everyone that wants it/ needs it.

"and notes that the EU "believes it is in the interest of all sides that Ukraine maintains its position of an important transit country.""

- that sums it all up EU are putting all their chips on what Russia has said from 2019 will not be the case - and then again Germany cant give a hoot its got its secure supply through Nord stream! Who is bluffing EU technocrats or Russia's Putin?

2019 is not too far away and short of Western Ukrainian EU puppets complete submission to Eastern Ukrainian will for full autonomy across all of Eastern Ukraine not just Luhansk and Donetsk I suspect there will be a EU Energy Crisis Emergency summit come late 2018!

Gazprom has stated they will deliver to Turkish/Greek border - its upto EU to deal with how it pipes it in the EU south and pay for it too! Decision has been made and Russia is diversifying to a more reliable buyer (China) - so really the EU arm twisting of Bulgaria to ditch south stream has just ended up by the EU shooting itself in the foot and saved Gazprom $45 Billion!

yes i know but it's not a new project is the implementation of the old agreement and is the certification of Germany as the only "hub " of Europe..
P.S. This also probably means that Turkish stream will be built in his small extension because a lot of the gas will flow from the north stream
and in Italy we are not sure that Greece will be a good idea as a transit country for our paid gas

Not so sure. Ever heard of the planned additional line for NorthStream?
