Eight arrested for crimes in Srebrenica

Blaming Srebrenica on NATO, when it's clear as day that criminal Bosnian Serbs committed this henous crime that brought shame to normal Serbs who don't believe in genocide or nationalism.

“We have never dealt with a crime of such proportions. It is very important for Serbia to take a clear position toward Srebrenica through a court process," he said.

Not surprising, since the Srebrenica massacre committed by Serbs was the worst atrocity with the most victims since WW2.

This is a very interesting development which I fully excpect NATO to stop.

There are indications that Moslem soldiers who surrendered to Bosnian Serb forces following their breakout from Srebrenica rwere murdered at the Pilic farm near Kravica. The number murdered Moslems has been exaggerated by one member of the team that murdered these Moslems, Drazen Erdemovic.

Erdemovic was a Croat member of the 10th Sabotage Unit of the Bosnian Serb army. The 10th Sabotage Unit was composed entirely of Croats, Slovenes and Bosnian Moslems. No Serbs were among its members. Some Serbian soldiers were assigned to this group as drivers and other support, but the fighters, the killers, were all non-Serbs.

Erdemovic was arrested by Serbian police in Belgrade and extradicted to The Hague by the late President Milosevic. Milosevic said that Erdemovic and others in the 10th Sabotage Unit were all members of the French Foreign Legion and were paid in gold to murder Srebrenica Moslems so that NATO could have a pretext to get involved in the Bosnian Civil War.

Perhaps as many as 200 Moslem soldiers were murdered by this group, and their bodies left at the site to be filmed by NATO TV crews. Something went wrong and the Bosnian Serbian army realised what was going on and quickly disposed of the murdered Moslems. NATO were furious that their staged atrocity had been ruined but this didn't stop them from making accusations against the Serbs. A trial is the last thing NATO want.

Where are those Serbs who deny crimes Serbs committed? It seems entire world knows but Serbs.

As usual there are arguments blaming the victims (they killed themselves) and also arguments calling them "moslem soldiers" when it clearly says that they were civilians. Now we have arguments containing both. Like the first argument here. A new low if you ask anybody

Michael Thomas: Thousands of remains have been DNA tested and linked to those who went missing. Over 5000 have been identified and buried at ceremonies attended, amongst others, by Boris Tadic. How then can you say that we don't yet know the names of these people? The whys and wherefores of the whole Balkan conflict can be argued over until the cows come home but Srebrenica was a massacre verging on genocide. All credit to Serbia, albeit belatedly, for starting the real process of reconciliation and arresting these seven men. Their guilt or innocence will hopefully be proven in a court of law rather than in that of public opinion. Certainly were I to be suspected of such an heinous act I would actively welcome an opportunity to clear my name. The fact that these trials will be conducted in Serbia should reassure doubters about the integrity of the process, unless you believe that outside forces will pressurise the judiciary. (I thought I would get that in now before anyone brings it up).

They are about as clear as any crime scene. What conspiracy theory source are you using as evidence versus the mountain of evidence from the international community? Why is everything some sort of conspiracy theory?

We still don't know the names of the Moslems who were supposedly murdered. I will repeat that for you, after a 20 year NATO investigation, we still don't have the names of the people who NATO claim were murdered. 7000 "men and boys" were said to have been murdered. Who were they? If the Moslems broke through Serbian military lines, and they did, then some would surely have been killed in battles with the defending Serbian forces. How many Moslem soldiers died in these battles? Soldiers killed in battle can't be victims of massacres.

All we know about Srebrenica is NATO propaganda and that is how they will want it to stay. I bet this Serbian initiative to get to the truth is stopped by Western pressure.

I think Michael Thomas and others - Zoran, Dragan, Daniel, Ari, sj - could all benefit from a pilgrimage to Srebrenica. They could see the graves for themselves, and meet the victims' families.

Actually, such a pilgrimage could benefit members of all sides: Croats could visit the places where they committed atrocities in Krajina and Bosnia (Ahmici, for instance), and Muslims could visit the sites where they attacked Serbian and Croatian civilians. Serbs and Albanians could do likewise in Kosovo.

And finally, NATO could take a look at the consequences of their bombardment of Yugoslavia - the DU rounds and all the collateral damage.

Zoran has often pushed for a truth and reconciliation movement and I like that idea - but I think it ought to be without amnesty for war criminals. I understand that amnesty encourages the guilty to come forward but people need to pay for their crimes. Hopefully a new generation of politicians would be willing to deal in facts and invest in a sweeping effort to get to the bottom of what truly happened in the 80s and 90s.

You think that NATO is afraid of some trial in Serbia, no matter what the crimes are??? They have the ICJ ruling Srebrenica as a genocide, they have convictions in the ICTY, and you think that the world will hinge on testimony in a courtroom in Serbia of Serbian judges and prosecutors trying Serbs for crimes against other ethnic groups, for which Serbs today still express a total hatred for.

I think they are more interested in whether Putin's girlfriend did have a baby?

Yes mate, the story and numbers get bigger and bigger evey year. The people buried in Potocari are from all regions of Bosnia, i.e. Bosniak soldiers that were killed in and around Tusla, the last major offensive around Sarajevo and so it goes on. I’ve even heard that some of those coffins had rocks in them just to make up the numbers. The first casualty in a war is the truth.
I suspect that in another decade the Potocari area will be bigger than Arlington National Cemetery in Washington. I’ve seen Potocari.

There are only two places where the UN has declared beyond resonable doubt that genocide was committed after WW2; Srebrenica and Rwanda... Not sure there is any "elsewhere" proven beyond reasonable doubt by the international community

You are wrong. The events in Srebrenica nearly 20 years ago are far from clear. We had NATO propaganda from Day 1 and that has not changed. But we don't have facts.
