Most big German newspapers had articles about the ADAC survey and so by now a lot of people here should know that Belgrade is cheap when it comes to travel expenses. Germans love their good deals, which are called 'Schnappchen' . Every German is a potential 'Schanppchen-Hunter', and now it is time to start a marketing campaign. The Belgrade Tourist Board should use this survey and market the city more aggressively. Weekend package deals, more information on Berlgrads sights, always with a reference to the good deals people visiting Belgrade get, could bring in money as well boost tourism.

I love Belgrade. I live in the Chicago area, which itself is an amazing city, but the night life in Belgrade is better. One of my favorite things is the street food. Besides being incredibly good, it's actually good quality, and not expensive at all. If you find the right stands, the pizzas, BURGERS MMMMM, hotdogs, chicken sandwiches, etc are all ridiculously good and it comes out to roughly $2.50-$3 USD...and we're talking about a huge sandwich here. The many bars, the splavovi (river boat night clubs), several festivals, and sights to see are really all amazing. Hotel Moskva and Life Design Hotel are both right by Kalemegdan and considering that you're in the heart of everything at those hotels, it's about $100 USD a night for what is considered a top tier hotel and steps from Knez Mihajlo. You can find hotels for much cheaper. The city is clean, safe from violent crime, and people are friendly.

I wasn't in Belgrade too long but I found it really good value for money. If you want to go out for a meal or drinks, the bars and restaurants are really cheap and of good quality too. I went to the Belgrade Fortress and the Nikola Tesla museum, both were amazing however I can't remember if I had to pay an entry fee or not. The Church of Saint Sava is free, it is a must see in Belgrade, it is amazing (although it isn't finished on the inside yet).

I was in Belgrade in July for two days and I took £80 worth of Dinar with me, I came back with over £40 left and I wasn't being tight with my money either. I would have spent more but I wanted to buy a Red Star Belgrade shirt, I looked all over the high street area for one. I went in every sports shop from the Hotel Moskva towards Republic Square down towards towards the French Embassy and the Serbian Radical Party HQ near Belgrade Fortress; but annoyingly I couldn't find one however I could find an England shirt in a Nike shop which I found rather weird. I didn't have time to go to the Red Star Stadium unfortunately. I must point out that some of the top end high street stores have similar prices to the UK, so Belgrade isn't cheap for a shopping trip.

Anyway, Belgrade is an amazing cheap modern and historic city and it's really safe too, it is definitely worth visiting at least once in your lifetime. I plan on going back at some time in the near future. Two days isn't enough!
