PM: Salaries, pensions, subsidies to be cut

There will be no decrease of salaries in the public sector and pensions up to RSD 25,000 (EUR 211 as of Sept. 19), PM Aleksandar Vučić has announced.

Serbs have seen the cost of living increased by 20 percent this year (due to the value of the dinar), and the govt. wants to reduce salaries for everyone except those people living in extreme poverty by another 10 percent. Vucic and those working in the parliament should volunteer to take a 20 percent reduction in pay. Even with that, they can't imagine how difficult it is to live on less than 500 euros a month. If these cuts go into effect, we will see more Serbs leaving to make a living elsewhere.

This sure is a great start to increase corruption and illegal activity without a doubt!

Lower salaries, increase cost of food and utilities. Brilliant!

A good start to incremental restructuring of the government and economy. It is not going to be easy to clean up this fiscal mess. I hope Mr. Vucic keeps his eye on maximizing economic growth, which is the only way out of this tunnel. So far his efforts have been pretty slow: only the Labor Law amendments will have any impact on economic growth.
