Simple minds, such a precious commodity in the world today, it is the venue that gives strength to many an agenda.
So TODAY Russia and China have developed technology that was present in the US 20 years ago, do you think that the US just stood idly by and did nothing during the last 15 years or do you think that just maybe they have advanced further plus having the original knowledge the US had the ability to focus on what the weaknesses in the stealth are and developed counter technology.
After all you proved it is not the perfect machine, a military such as Serbia was able to shoot one down....

I doubt China's admission in WTO 2 years after the bombing really had anything to do with the bombing nor were any of the trade deals and prohibitions over the last 15 years.

The US paid very dearly for that act of stupidity. China got into the WTO immediately, the US Congress passed a very favourable trade deal with China as wellas giving Bejing speical status regarding its imports.
In total it would have been cheaper if the US rebuilt the Chinese embassy with gold ingots. All the cards the US held to squeeze China vanished overnight. That’s the price the US paid.
(sj, 9 May 2014 12:05)

Oh, great, all us common mortals missed the logical connection above that only somebody like you - the CE of B92 forums - can really comprehend. The world has missed such a great tool for economic development and forcing other countries to pay dearly. In the future, all a country needs to do to get special status regarding its imports and favorable trade deals is to cause its embassy to be bombed. That is another tool that can now be added to the economic policies of countries thanks to this brilliant discovery by the CE of B92 forums sj. We are so honored to have you here...

"Yes the Chinese have advanced so much, they now have an aircraft carrier in the China waters. Of course they still do not have any aircraft on it or pilots capable of landing one on the ship but yeah they got the last laugh."

The Shengyang J-15 is finishing production as I write. The Chinese, along with the Russians also have the only stealth planes other than the US - made with the technology Clinton gifted them. It was no mistake for China to let Slobo use their embassy, it turned into a great technological triumph for their arms industry and for the future of their military capability!

Also Jiang Zemin never officially expressed regret for allowing the Yugoslav Military to use the Chinese embassy. Zemin has never published any memoirs, the government published a selection of his speeches and other material from his presidency. What was written in the Sunday Times about the incident came from claims in a Hong Hong magazine. The claims have never been officially published in China and are pure speculation.

The chinese ultimately got revenge on the US for this. Milosevic handed over parts belonging the US stealth plane they had shot down and enabled the Chinese to find out about technology used to make it and eventually produced a stealth plane that was an exact copy. In 2001 they further punished the US by grounding one of its spy planes learned more US military secrets.

As far as I know, the 1961 Vienna Convention regulates conduct between the host country and the foreign mission -- eg. the latter enjoying the right to be free from coercion by the host country, etc

So which specific provision or article, exactly, in the 1961 Vienna Convention did the Chinese and Belgrade violate as you claimed?

And oh, if memory serves me right, the Yankees had to pay some $26 million to the Chinese.

Mistake my A**,it was deliberate and against international law. Just imagine if the Chinese would have bombed the US embassy and used the same excuse as America does. The US is always spouting about international law (Serbia, Syria,Russia, etc)but they are always breaking international law ........HYPOCRITES! FU America!
(george, 7 May 2014 19:50)

International law? LOL! The Chinese Embassy was bombed with good reason and because both FR Yugoslavia and PR China were violating international law.

The Yugoslav Military were using the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade as a Military Command Centre during the bombing of Yugoslavia with Chinese permission as they thought they'd be safe in there. However this made FR Yugoslavia and PR China both in violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which both were signatories of; thus both were breaking international law. When the US became aware of this, the Chinese Embassy became a legitimate military target and it was rightfully bombed. Of course the US intentionally and deliberately bombed the Chinese Embassy. Even former Chinese President Jiang Zemin stated in his memoirs that he regretted allowing Milosevic use the Chinese Embassy as a Yugoslav Military Command Centre.

It was being used as a communication center for the Serbian army and paramilitaries in Kosovo during the war, so it was a legitimate target from a military point of view. This is according the the memoirs of China's former president or prime minister a few years ago.
