Congratulations to Russia and Crimea for such a smooth transition. No need for recognitions as Russia is a fully recognised country with a permanent UNSC seat.

In the end, the Ukraine pays for its unconstitutional overthrow of the democratically elected government.

And congratulations to Kosovo for having even Russia now supporting Kosovo's arguments. And congratulations to Europe for ensuring (without having to do anything) that Ukraine is never going to be a Russian ally after this.

The only question I have is what did Serbia get out of this and what did Russia get out of this (other than increasing the land by 0.15%)?

Serbs hopeful of Putin's salvation may be left smiling, maybe not.
Of course, Putin could do much to help Serbdom as a whole.
He could tell his little man in Banja Luka to declare independence and fly in several thousand "peacekeeping" troops. It would be very difficult for the EU to shoot them out of the skies...
He cannot really tell the leader of North Kosovo to declare independence from Kosovo since that would break the myth of all KosMet rejoining the motherland.
But whatever Putin might do for Serbia, it would only be part of a spoiling operation against his 2nd enemy, the EU.
Against his 1st enemy, the USA, the Serbs cannot be as useful to him.
Actually, although a non Serb, I rather sympathise with Serbia - a nation that is not allowed to have all its citizens in one state. But Putin divides people, and might not be quite what he seems...and he surely will fall sooner or later.

Ugly Serbs Mr Kottori? You bitchy little man. The Serbs are probably the most handsome nation in Europe. I suspect you're hardly an oil painting yourself.

Yes, only those Serbs are praising Russia. Serbian politicians keep their mouth shut. It's crystal clear, and even Putin mentioned the Kosovo case in his speech. To sum up: Taking away regions of a sovereign country when the majority (in the region, not the whole country) wants is) is tolerated nowadays. If Putin would be consequent and not using double standards, he would recognize Kosovo. If the west (i.e. the countries that were so stupid to recognize the self-proclaimed mafia-led state of Kosovo) wouldn't have double standards, they would accept the referendum of the people on Crimea.

You mean like in the end, Serbia payed for the discrimination and bloodshed it created in Kosovo? Strange arguments, I never understood it.

RE: WW-III

Lets remember in history who started WW-III which was the first clear breach of the UN and Helsinki charters with the break up of Yugoslavia beginning in 1989 ending with the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia and Kosovo.

Very similar to the destruction of international law with the League of Nations after WWI with Hitlers rise to power and the occupation of Europe. The US and Germany have led a Economic occupation along with targeted military strikes to small counties that dare defy them.

Russian ships have been sighted and docked in Cuba, Venezuala and other latin American countries. Let's see how the US likes it when Russia is on the doorstep to US shores.

While some in Serbia but mostly those outside with Serbia blood see this as some magical bullet that is going to help them retake Kosovo. It is just the opposite. In the world of face saving it has made Kosovo a centerpiece for show of western power. Expect to see some strengthening of the western support for Kosovo and the determination that Russia will not win out in this case.

Putin signed more than that he just signed a minimum of a 5 year extension of Serbia/EU talks, as Serbia cannot come out and fully join the chorus that is booing Russia.
Also South Stream may not be dead but it will see some technical delays as Russia has to evaluate whether that money pledged should go to development of gas to the east or if the demand for the west will continue.
Russian action may not be devastating for themselves in the long run but it is going to seriously cripple Serbia.
