To Mirel and all:
Today Romanian president Traian Basescu had a meeting with the head of CIA, John O. Brennan, who visited Romania to discuss with RO secret agencies about the fight against terrorism and bilateral co-operation.
Quote from Basescu:
"Our main political target is to consolidate the ties with USA, despite the fact that sometimes, as concerning the Kosovo case, we do not have exactly the same position, but this cannot raise a question mark regarding our resolve to consolidate the relationship with United States".
So, the Kosovo issue exists, but more important for US are to secure Romanian support for the war against terrorism inter alia, the presence of Romanian troops in Iraq and Afghanistan).
From his part, Brennan has praised the "professionalism", "spirit of inovation", "integrity" and "courage" of Romanian intelligence officers. The head of CIA had meeting at both the Romanian Intelligence Service and the Foreign Intelligence Service headquarters in Bucharest.
Last but not least, yesterday the Romanian President, the Prime Minister Victor Ponta and the Minister for Foreign Affairs Titus Corlatean, had separate meetings with the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, General Nikolai Platonovici Patrushev. With this occasion was signed a Memorandum of Co-operation between Russia and Romania in matters of security. This time the issue of Kosovo was not mentioned at all, at least not in front of TV cameras...
