Someone tooting his own horn that much ends up making one believe otherwise.

@Peggy

I have seen so many self endorsement posts and many characters popping up playing a part, at times patriotic "ultra moderate realistic" Serb, helpful businessman, quiet "humble" guy posting his truths from Belgrade or convinient "Serb" strawman popping up etc etc. But, one common theme is all roads tend to lead to the one same road for these characters, recognise Kosovo and submit, every thing else is marketed as irrational, Milosevic tactics, Chetnik, backward Australian basement dweller.

Funny how that is eh?

What do you think? Just because China and India refuse to recognise Kosovo it means that 2,7bn people are against independence of kosovo? I can tell you that 2,7bn people don't give a sh*t about "Serbia's territorial integrity".

Just like you think that the Chinese don't care about Kosovo, neither do the Brits, Yanks, Montenegrins or anyone else too.
Yet, I read here all the time how the wealthiest countries have recgnised Kosovo therefore you have support of most of the world.

Because, you don't live in Serbia. For people like you Serbia is part hobby, part existential decoration. Your opinions about what "you think is best for Serbia" are more orientated to how you feel about yourself than Serbia. You don't have to live with the consequences of your opinions about Serbia. I find it annoying that people in Belgrade should care about what people in Kosovo want. What gives Serbia the rights to decide about other people. In my opinion it is occupation/war mindset, telling others what to do or not to do. That's what triggered Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia to fight for their freedom.

If EU has opinions usually you take them into consideration since they might benefit the people, but in the end the people decide whats right for them, not Serbia or any other country not even Albania.

With all of those statistics on your side; with 72% of the world’s GDP backing Kosovo’s independence you still can’t force Serbia to recognise it. Tells you a lot about the real situation.

Firstly, the vast majority of those countries that recognise Kosovo do not even have a apartment in Pristina let alone an ambassador. The G7 is a cold war relic and totally defunct group as all its member are broke and funded by China and other emerging countries in some form or fashion, but it make the US feel warm and good about its greatness of yesteryear. Its the G20 that now matters; it countries like China Russia, India and Brazil that sway opinions.

Regardless of what backing you have Kosovo is still an impoverished region allegedly under Albanian control.

@Ari Gold

In international law there are three criteria for statehood: territory, population and government. Being a member of the UN is NOT a test for statehood. Let me show you some examples:
Switzerland became part of the UN in 2002. The country itself was found in 1291.
Somalia is a failed state, but is part of the UN.
Serbia has no control over 1/5 of "its territory" and is part of the UN.
Taiwan which is undeniably more stable and has more statehood than every country in the Balkans is not part of the UN. The same with Hong Kong.
Being a member of the UN doesn't make a state out of a territory. There are criteria which have more essence and are much more important.

Those stats don't mean much. Like the countries that 'recognized' make up 72% of the worlds GDP? Ok? Are they investing in Kosovo i Metohija upon their recognition? Albanians even while occupying Kosovo i Metohija are still impoverished. The only thing you are getting is generous humanitarian donations from Western NGO's and unsuspecting tax payers. That will cease eventually because the U.S. has already stopped spending so much and that trend will continue. And lets not even talk about Western Europe who is in even worse shape than the U.S. The only stat that matters is if the KLA gets a seat at the UN. Today that is the biggest test of statehood. Montenegro and South Sudan got their seats mere weeks after their deceleration and you are on 5 years with nada.

As far as this poll goes, I think its a bunch of b.s. I have not met one Serb who thinks "Kosovo is independent". I have met plenty who think it was forcefully stripped away and is now temporarily occupied, but independent? No.

I like this poll. It shows clearly how confused and headless the Serbian society is. The same percentage of people who sees Kosovo independent also don't want to give up on Kosovo. Absolutely contradictory and the reason why the slogan "Ni Kosovo, ni EU" (Neither Kosovo, nor EU) is the most likely outcome with the current course.

The Serbian people should once and for all organize a referendum, but only with clear statements. If EU, then Kosovo must be recognized asap. If deciding for Kosovo, then EU path must be officially declined. But apparently no one in Serbia has the courage to ask that decisive question.

The Serbian people should once and for all organize a referendum, but only with clear statements. If EU, then Kosovo must be recognized asap. If deciding for Kosovo, then EU path must be officially declined. But apparently no one in Serbia has the courage to ask that decisive question.

"But when asked which they would choose - Serbia's membership in the EU or a complete restoration of Kosovo within Serbia's system - 65 percent chose Kosovo over the EU. "

Why didnt you ask them if they also preferred a space holiday? It sure would have gotten a 90%+.

In my opinion Serbia have only one way that is to turn to the brother Russia,Serbia can not become part of the EU(NATO)without giving up to its national interests.

Serbs are traditional, so much so many still live in the middle ages :) This doesn't surprise me one bit. Religion is most important to traditional people - they think god will save them, but when something happens - and god doesn't [save them] there's always a good reason why he didn't come to the rescue.

Some of the answers given sound contradictory and rather stupid - although one wonders whether that was the intention of those that commissioned the poll.

I think you have something here.
Everything depends on who was polled and how the questions were phrased. You can make any poll to your advantage with a little clever manipulation of demographics and phrasing.

Referendum is the only way. This is far too important to be left to the government alone.

What do you think? Just because China and India refuse to recognise Kosovo it means that 2,7bn people are against independence of kosovo? I can tell you that 2,7bn people don't give a sh*t about "Serbia's territorial integrity".

What do you think that because the US, UK and others have recognised Kosovo that their people wanted it that way?
Just like you think that the Chinese don't care about Kosovo, neither do the Brits, Yanks, Montenegrins or anyone else too.
Yet, I read here all the time how the wealthiest countries have recgnised Kosovo therefore you have support of most of the world.

At least we have the Russian, Greeks and Romanians who truly see us as friends and brothers. Who sees you as that? NOBODY.

Really?
Your ill feelings for Serbia are obvious but your exploitation of Serbs is what keeps you there.
You have given away enough about how you feel to stand any chance of convincing anyone that you are pro Serb. You are pro Danilo.

So go the polls in Serbia: "What do you think about the status of a territory you lost 14 years ago, and which no one in the world is going to do anything meaningful to help you get back?" Or, "How do you rate the performance of politicians once closely allied to war criminals that left Serbia smaller while fighting to make her bigger?" Now that's a country going places.

There will never be 100% agreement on anything, that much is true but thankfully there aren't many who think or who would allow Kosovo to be independent.
Why do you think that Australian Serbs are different to Serbs from Serbia? We all love Serbia and want the best for her people, unlike some who live there and exploit the average Serb but wish the worst for Serbs.

Where are you conducting your survey?

"Why do you think that Australian Serbs are different to Serbs from Serbia"

Because, you don't live in Serbia. For people like you Serbia is part hobby, part existential decoration. Your opinions about what "you think is best for Serbia" are more orientated to how you feel about yourself than Serbia. You don't have to live with the consequences of your opinions about Serbia. Hence, they're a little kooky :)

@Ari Gold

I think of election of tadic in 2008 already showed this! And all elections since have proven that Serbians in Serbia strongly believe in Kosovo independence. The radical party is dead and there are no nationalists in the government. Time to just remove Kosovo from the constitution already. Why is it even there anymore.

Alban

pre 11 godina

I find it annoying that people in Belgrade should care about what people in Kosovo want. What gives Serbia the rights to decide about other people. In my opinion it is occupation/war mindset, telling others what to do or not to do. That's what triggered Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia to fight for their freedom.

If EU has opinions usually you take them into consideration since they might benefit the people, but in the end the people decide whats right for them, not Serbia or any other country not even Albania.

Nikolle
