At the moment Serbia is in slavery to a handful of "tycoons" and their flunkeys (otherwise known as politicians). Slavery to the EU sound like an almost attractive option, specially if they'll give some money and not just take, like the current overlords.

Croatia will not join when the citizens have a say their not interested in welfare money with strings of slavery attached to it. Croatians are overwhelming against the EU nonsense. Those that support it are in the single digits in Croatia. If Serbia is in favour of selling them selfs as slaves for 1.6 billion euros a year in social assistance. With many puppet strings attached then you can enjoy it like Romanian Mircea EU citizen slave.

Serbia will probably join the EU in 2020 or even later.

You must be one those fortune tellers with a crystal ball that can see into the future. I hope that you are paying taxes to your EU country citizens.

Serbia's road to the EU will be long and difficult.

Just look at Croatia. Croatia started accession negotiations with the EU in 2005 and will probably join the EU in 2014.
