the US want stability in the region?

revoke your laughable "recognition" boys, then, and only then you can count on Serbia as a partner.

so much for US-american wishes, they are not of importance.

Russia, and lately some other "players" are gaining influence in the region, and..to be honest, I find that quite amusing, since it shows that the US have completely miscalculated the whole thing and the Albanian once again sided with the losers.

but of course they will boast around about the "one and only global superpower" =)

interesting times ahead, my dear friends.

let´s just see what future brings...

Bondsteel is in Kosovo so it's up for us to decide. Anyway, Albania is in NATO and Kosova is in it indirectly so even if Bondsteel left nothing would change.

By September, more than half of the world will have recognized the newest state in the world! Those are negotiations
(alban, 1 June 2009 00:46)

Until Serbs give up on kosovo all this doesn't help you a lot.
Serbs will for their chance to take it back and all this countries will again listen what powers tell them to do...
And change their position on Kosovo overnight again...
You know that we now that, so you see without Serbian people it doesn't help you much...

Only then, will Albanians feel they need to negotiate. While you are there stirring the pot there will never be peace.

Go home.
(Peggy, 31 May 2009 23:30)

This is a joke right? What did albanians do during the 90s with Rugova, when everyone in ex-Yugo was fighting the Serbs? What did Serbia do under Milosevic? Refused to negotiate.

Who are you kidding?
Serbia is willing to negotiate only when it can't fight a war.

Thanks, but no thanks. How do you expect me to negotiate with you after you try to kill and cleanse me first? How do you expect me to be a citizen of a country whose army killed thousands (10,000 officialy) and expelled almost 1 million of my people only 10 years ago? Apparently Serbia has been a very irresponsible patron of Kosovo and albanians who live there.

If history has tought us anything is that we can never trust Serbia with our lives.

Well then, why did the US create the instability in the first place?

alban, your subjective vision of the future is rather far-fetched. Kosovo has to get over 5 obstacles, but it only takes 1 to spoil the fun. And even here, we're discounting the likely possibility that other EU member states won't block your path.

Aside from your fuzzy predictions of Greece being a "done deal" (whatever that means), Romania needing the US on Moldova (again, whatever that means), and Cyprus suddenly being "convinced" by Greece, and your convenient ignoring of Spain and Slovakia, I fail to see how you arrive at your logic.

The only thing I do agree with you on is that no one really gives that much of a hoot about Kosovo, including some of its most ardent supporters, seeing as how they're not holding Serbia's feet over the fire until it cries "uncle".

No one is pressuring Serbia to recognize Kosovo, and no serious politician or Eurocrat is going to do that so long as there is internal disunity within the EU. Whatever you're hearing from Albanian circuits that makes you think what you think is unsubstantiated sensationalism.

Kosovo's only way of getting into the EU, aside from riding on Serbia's back, is for the EU to officially occupy Kosovo as a protectorate.

It seems that even the US is realising that independence is irreversibly blocked. Russia and China have already said no and so have Spain, Cyprus, Slovakia, Greece, Romania and soon to join them will be the Czech Republic.

It's much easier for us to maintain our position because it doesn't really cost much but to maintain the occupation is costing the US/EU several billion a year.

Anyone who thinks Serbia will ever accept Kosovo independence is completely delusional. I wonder how much longer the US can maintain this occupation? Will it be more important to feed their people at home or to waste funds on misguided missions?

alban

"Serbia can get through the "EU door" if it wants. Unless it rides on Serbia's back, Kosovo can't. I really don't know why some Western officials keep deluding themselves that Kosovo has any chance in the EU as a parastate and with an impending Cypriot/Spanish/Greek/Romanian/Slovakian veto."

You think that those states actually care about Kosova as much as some Serbian nationalists do? Greece for one is almost a done deal. Romania needs US on Moldova, Cyprus can be convinced by Greece eventually. Each of them have their price and with Lisbon treaty it's much easier. Spain is a problem but all states will be in EU, it's a matter of when.

Serbia will find it's application on hold for ages despite EU officials paying lip service unless they recognize Kosova. No black holes in Europe and no fights in either, EU is about cooperation and peace, not Balkan style fights.

"Judah (!) said that "for now" the U.S. and EU do not expect "Serbia to recognize Kosovo's independence",

So they at least realize that they will never have their NATO-state legalized. Stop the rest of the charade as well, send the "president" and the rest of the "government" back to their criminal buisness and install a colonial governor until you finally lose your grip in the balkans and it will not be long until then..

Even the ultras would agree that since independence the security situation in Kosova and regionally has improved dramatically. Judah has always been sympathetic to Serbian viewpoint but is regional stability due to Mr Tadic’s commitment to non-violent solutions? There is little doubt Mr Tadic did have the means to make the situation much worse, but he was first and foremost looking after Serbia’s interest. After 20 years of nationalistic mayhem Serbia had no longer the means to play the violent nationalistic game. After all non-violence was the platform that propelled Tadic as a winner last year.
In this light Tadic and independence can coexist quite nicely without acknowledging or being indebted to each other.

Wishful thinking from a known Serbophobe. If you want to read a bigoted, revisionist history of the Serbian people, go read his book. More proof that the west is beginning to panic about their position in Kosovo. By the way, what happened to the flood of recognitions from the Arab world?

All they (US) want is to maintain stability in the region, they don’t wish to pile up problems any more, they want to secure peaceful coexistence of those people there.

Again, more lies and more "spin" from the West. If the US and the EU REALLY wanted peace and stability, they would be honest, unbiased brokers in NEGOTIATIONS!!! But the US has it's own agenda, and they want the Serbs to "fall in line" under their omnipotence. The US and the EU can say whatever they want to for public consumption....but the reality is that they want Serbia to be subserviant to them and their "masters". The wisest path for the Serbs is to resist US domination until this economic meltdown weakens them where they no longer have the ability to pressurize the Balkans anymore.
