I think it's the Greeks fault, If they would just leave us alone, I don't think anyone would care about alexander the great. I just don't understand how Greeks keep forgetting that the little border we share wasn't there 2,000 years ago. Who cares if people in MK think they're related to alexander? most of them probably only live fifteen minutes away from the greeks that do. I myself am a Macedonian of serbian descent, therefore a huge statue of alexander is stupid to me, but Macedonia is a heterogeneous nation so whose to say everybody is one race? Only greeks think like that... Plus, no one can deny that more than half of MK was part of ancient macedonia, even if the slavs migrated there, the land didn't change....

The funny thing is the two subjects in the proposed statue have Greek names: Alexandros (defender of men) and Bucephalos (ox-shaped head). I'm sure the Gruevski desciples will find some special horse DNA that shows the horse was of Macedonian origin as well or that these names are on the Rosetta Stone as ancient slavomacedonian. Beyond laughable.

I guess we didn’t know that only Greece has exclusive right to name the cities or erect the monuments after Alexander the Great.

"in Fyrom where a spineless population allows a mad nationalist get away with his insane antics"
Yeh I agree the statue project is "mad nationalist," surpassed in Europe only by the realy really crazy nationalists - all political parties and most of the population - in the larger country to its immediate south.

While being in favour of Macedonia to keep the name it has chosen, I agree that plans for this statue are really laughable.
And, by analogy to some other Balkan situation, one would expect now Mosul to belong to Greek cultural heritage, even more reasonably (a won battle). (I'm sure Greece won't claim it).

It is not a secret that the authorities in Skopje crossed
the red line of ridicule some
time ago.
Here there is a country which
was unable to pay the salaries of public employees in the first months of the year,is currently in talks with the IMF for a drawdown of its facility, with an infrastructure that is falling apart ,with an unemployment rate of more than 35% and an economy deep in recession and decides to spend $millions in building churches and statutes.
Had the above been taking place anywhere else there would've been riots in the streets and public disorder but not in Fyrom where a spineless population allows a mad nationalist get away with his insane antics.
