"The Kosovar Government now needs to step up and subsidize the economic sector to prevent social chaos."

Subsidize the economic sector with what? The Kosovo government doesn't have any money, and the people are too broke to pay higher taxes.

I knew Kosovo would be a failed state, although I must admit that I'm surprised to see it going down the toilet as quickly as it is. I guess independence isn't the magical cure everybody thought it would be.

I have continued to say for months, that if the Government wants to help it's citizens in finding jobs, which will promote spending, prosperity, all they have to do is hire 50k to 100k (more or less) for a much needed job; cleaning the nations highways, rivers, streams, villages, etc. of garbage. Up to 100 thousand could be employed for a year (at least), with half being carried afterward for that particular type of work, and the other half for roadway maintenance and beautification work. With all of the money that is coming into Kosovo, if the politicians would keep their hand out of the "cookey jar" and distribute the wealth to make it work for the country, things would be far along to alleviate the unemployment.

-"enjoy your independence. if you are hungry you can eat independence"-

Independence is better than food.
Independence is better than electricity.
However, independence is not better than watching on TV and enjoying poor ol Vukovic, Lavrov, and Kostunica sweat it out. Without any luck. The world treats them as if they're not even there. Nonexistant. Ghosts.

Yep, independence rules!

The rise in prices corresponds with the rise of oil in the world market. Same thing is happening in Serbia.
also, i always take everything with a grain of salt from a source like Tanjug,

What's new?

The price of food has been going up all over the world, and Kosovo is no exception. This is not an isolated case but a global phenomenon. Food prices have been going up all over Europe and North America too.

We can thank growing demand from the rising Chinese and Indian middle classes, as well as the ethanol-growing fiasco which takes away good agricultural land away from farmers and forces them to grow plants for alternative fuels.

This isn't a Kosovo problem. It's a world problem.

Inflation is a dangerous game. RTK was covering this story almost a week ago and was speaking how in 2 years the prices of wheat, flour, and oil has doubled --- that is absurd. The Kosovar Government now needs to step up and subsidize the economic sector to prevent social chaos.

Does anyone know how much the prices in the region have risen? A graph showing these 3 goods and regional countries would contribute greatly to the article itself'.

Not a problem, Pristina's experienced politicians will just stick their hands out a little further to the EU and the US and their will be plenty on all the tables in A_Kosovo. Like Iraq once had an "Oil for Food" program, maybe Pristina can have a "Drugs and Weapons for Food" program?
