Ben I agree with you 100% but asking a Serbian to be fair is like trying to convince a criminal to let go of his old ways.Bad habits are hard to break, just ask any Serb and they would probably agree.Well I can't blame you for not trying. If the Serbs were fair minded people would they have viciously attacked the unarmed civilians in Slovenia,Croatia,Bosnia and Kosova?Since the Russians after the USSR collapse didn't go on a terror binge,What is it with the Serbs? I guess they take rejection the hard way.Too bad.

I am sorry, benny...

but since you are not capable of bringing up some real argument instead of some smileys... this conversation serves no purpose!

the info about the illyrian-myth is there...you only have to open your eyes for it.

just try the following key-words: Ardian Vebiu & illyrian myth... even albanian scholars know it, it seems that only koha ditore readers and other premature kids believe in that illusion...

and I agree with you on one thing...your "history" is not my business, and to be honest, I do not really care about it. but, it´s sad enough that you don´t know about it, but that is indeed your problem.

still, you didn´t answer on what I wrote: why are you referring to outdated "sources" if there are "many more"?

you attempt to mislead is quite obvious, but ineffectual, as usual. I am sorry for you, but on that level it really makes no sense...
go on dreaming, it´s all you got.

ben

our origin is our issue NOT serbian - so whenyou serbs will withdrow of interpeting our history?

you footprint in the western history is insignificant and that is a fact.. the most known serbian is Tesla- that's all form your contribution

Maybe you will feel more relaxed listening the Antonio Vivaldi's Scanderbeg? - just for the start as our footprint...:)

P.S. since 1911 it was clear our origin (from a reliable sources- there are many other) the successive studies have only endorsed the proposition - that you discovered in 2007 :)

Jovan

pre 17 godina

come on benny...

I don´t question brittanica as a source in general... but what I really find quite weak is your selective way of providing sources... 1911... wow, that was deep!

what are you talking about, my dear? about some communist who was then working for Tito´s Yugoslavia? is that what you are now referring to? it´s getting better and better, I guess. :)

oh... by the way, I would love to compare your history to the history of Serbia...unfortunately, you left no significant traces that could be compared with serbian architecture, pottery etc.

but actually, that is the reason why you are so desperately looking to connect yourself to the illyrians...

and sources like encyclopediae from 1911 or communist apparatchiks are really scary to me!

the bottom-line is:

if you were really interested in your history, you would already know that you came from the caspian region, just as the Serbs too..., but, your greater-albanian ideology doesn´t allow you to be honest...

that´s the sad reality.

ben

pre 17 godina

You are right Jovan!

Britannica.. . what a source… : )

The humanity should continua to study the discovered things just to please you serbs, maybe to reinvent the wheel? : )

I should’ve give you some source that would please you maybe from a professor form the Nis Uni? by the way what douse Nis mean in Serbian (Nissius)???

how do you explain the fact that neither the Serbian academy of science has come with a study that Albanians are not Illyrian descendents?

Again history is cruel and makes no compromises

A suggestion why don’t you study your own history and compare it with ours see your contribution to the western civilization and ours, I will let you know something from our contribution...

Till then... best

P.S. no comments on the The Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial and the number of serbs remembered there?

Jovan

pre 17 godina

check the time of those Brittanica-infos you are referring to...and then look into your calendar...

and compare it. it´s not 1911...we live in 2007!

catch my drift?

by referring to an edition published at the time when some european scholars believed to see the Albanians as the descendants of the ancient illyrians ( and even there they only believe it, they aren´t even calling it a fact, even then! ) ...you are perfectly displaying your level of knowledge.( or your ineffectual attempt to deceive us here )

by the way my dear friend benny,it´s your friends the Americans...whose archeologists and historians declared that myth as outdated and wrong in the late eighties of the last century, when they were digging in Kosovo´s underground... it was an archeological team from Chicago...

if you allow me to mention it, ...if another Albanian comes up with that Encyclopedia Brittanica nonsense... I will fall asleep. it´s so boring to see you coming up with nothing but a source from 1911...actually are you really so desperate to try to mislead us here with THAT???

Peggy: I saw your article the authors name was ending with OV (slavic name) and is only one OPINION not a FACT and it dousn't have to do nothing with what I was saying anyhow...

what I was quoting (form The Economist- a reliable source or maybe you will have to say something on that too) is a FACT- like it or not and that is:

“The Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Israel records 63 Albanians as “Righteous Among the Nations”, a title recognising those who risked their lives to save Jews. Romania has 53 such honourees, from a population six times Albania's. Russia has 124 [from a population 30 times Albania’s].”

Restrain your comments on the FACTS above mentioned by The Economist and maybe you can be CONSTRUCTIVE and say how many serbs are in the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial???

Same for you Serb from Canada- how did you got the idea that I am denying the Holocaust - this is not loyal way of speaking. That's why I advise you:

‘you can defeat the brave, but don't deny his merits'- why don't you take a lecture from this and behave fairly once in a while?

For the ‘historian’ Jovan – no comment, I don’t comment satire – but if you want to be informed you can always find info in Britannica- reliable source or maybe you will have to say something on that too?
you are slavs arrived in Balkans on VII century after Christ and we Illyrians (it's my language that tales me that I am)> I know that history is cruel and makes no compromises- sorry for that - this doesn't mean that you are guestes in the Balkans but just stay away form history man

You can beat your chest all you like and pretend you saved the Jews when in fact you were with the Nazis.
The Jews know it because they know their own history.

I don't get why people are comparing Russia's military to that of the USA and whatever. What difference does it make? None of them will go to war against each other, there is no need to fear either Russia or the US.

If it did, both would nuke the world to hell, even if they didn't, hundreds and thousands, if not millions would die from both sides. What is with comparing them when neither side will ever be able to use their full military capacity for anything, especially against each other? Both are strong.

Well it seems that Russia is infuriated because it appears 1244 allows for the independence of Kosova/o.Go read the part where the Russias talk about the turning upside down of 1244.
I read somewhere that 1244 provides for the sovereignty of Jugoslavia only during the transitional period. So if the EU ad US decide to move Kosova/o out of this transitional period of endless talks then this period will not be transitional anymore, hence the sovereignty of Jugoslavia over Kosova/o no longer exists. If this holds any truth, then both Serbia and Russia have been defeated at their own game. I guess that is why we have these threats coming from Moscow.

It was also said:
"By encouraging Priština's separatist aspirations, the United States and certain countries of the European Union were openly ignoring the positive results that had been achieved during the negotiations under the auspices of the Contact Group Troika,"

I thought really hard about any result during the negotiations and the only result I could think of is Ahtisari's Plan. I ca't think of any other result that was achieved. Now if Russian want Serbia to engage in talks where the Ahtisari plan is the basis, well we talked for that for more than a year so that is pointless too.

Zoran,

America is full of bright people from every nation on this globe. Trust me they understand history! This is what made them the only super power in the world. Russia is just a shadow of what it was during the Soviet Union. The nuclear issue is not worth speaking of because no sane country would think of using them! this is why the United States of America wins at the end. Might as well join them, because you can not fight them.

Why can't you learn from history? I know why Americans don't, because they are not taught history and frankly they don't care. What is your (Albanians)excuse? In the 90's Americans were saying Russia is done and will become the 51st State. I knew better, history was my guide. Russia is back and will be stonger than ever! Because they are trying to get as much as they can from Serbia. The recent agreement with Serbia and gazprom to include Serbia into the south stream pipeline to deliever natural gas and oil to Europe. And their is more, they want to enter the banking business, purchase the Belgrade airport among many other things. The Russians are holding until they get what they want. When this happens watch and see Kosovo will have total independence from Serbia. This is the new " colonialism " the carving up the wealth of this nation, it's either going to be the West or the East. The West got Slovenia, Bosnia, Croatia and just are waiting to tap into Trepcas wealth. Definitely Russia is again and again trying to revive the Czar era with Putin as the new king. And frankly they succeeded in some ways. The issue is dose a usual Serbian citizen wants to be Serbian or Russian. While the Kremlin support against Kosova independence does count Belgrade should not accept to be influenced in other areas such as liberty of press, freedom of speech etc. For those who think Russia is gambling you are wrong, it is all win-win situation for them. If Kosova does not get the independence they will expand their influence further. If ultimately Kosova gains the independence Putin like his predecessor will be given free pass on all criminal investigation and allegations by the international community.

Never mind, comments like this put Serbian nation to a bad light. More or less Serbian nation now is being associated with supporting Russia in any matter for Russian interest not for Kosova issue. This is thanks to you guys and a little minority like you that sing the tune ”Go EAST”. While you keep singing the same tune do you think that west will support you? I don’t think so. Russia doesn't have any solution in mind other than prolonging the unsustainable status quo. With its record of human rights and breaching the international law Russia is the last one that should speak up. Russia gambled and lost. EU is more united than it was 4 months ago.

These are the last threats coming from Russia. All Russia can do is veto UNSC and that's that. Russia has no political power over Kosova, Russia has no political over EU. Russia doesn't have any solution in mind other than prolonging the unsustainable status quo. With its record of human rights and breaching the international law Russia is the last one that should speak up. Russia gambled and lost. EU is more united than it was 4 months ago. US is more decisive for Kosova's independence. In other words, Russia's plan backfired. Thanks to Russia, the for months proved once for all that Serbian side is not interested in the "compromise" .

teni

Princip: You can add as many countries as you wish to your list. That does not change things one iota. Kosova is going towards independence and you cannot stop it. There is no chance in hell of Serbia ever ruling Kosova again. Frankly we don't care if you consider it illegal, because if you, as Serbs, had ever been of a mind to grant us independence there would have been no war to begin with. So we are gonna take what's ours and the West is gone support us. But you can sue us and see if we care.
The only issue really open to discussion is the North. Only there can Serbia still make life difficult for us, but the rest of Kosova is already independent.

Russia has not one foot to stand on! Their so called " Red Line " in Kosovo has been crossed by the West years ago when the Russians left Pristina airport. They have no interest in Kosovo nor have they made any contributions in Kosovo, so if they want to be taken seriously send some troops to the North and protect the Serbs from the so called up and coming unslaught. I am sick and tired of the Russians saying this and that, they carry a little stick, the West so far is the winner of the chess game of Kosovo. So let's all move on to the new year with a resolution to save the world from global warming.
