European orientation of the citizens of Serbia

I could not agree more with those who favor the Serbia's EU integration even if it means giving up Kosovo.
These probably are the biggest bread earners in Serbian society.
As pre the ones not wanting to integrate in EU, I'd say: "GET A JOB AND A LIFE"

Why not let the Serbian people decide what is good for them!

Take a binding vote, very soon, on if they wish to give up Kosovo. The whole region, without any PARTITION. You don't even have to mention membership into the EU. The Serb people are smart enough to read between the lines.

Why waste anymore time letting selfserving politians dance around the problem of what to do about Kosovo.

As an Irishman living in Beograd, I strongly reccomend people to consider the advantages that are presented to a country upon joining the EU.
There are quite a few similarities between Ireland before we joined the EU and the position of Serbia right now.
At the time of joining before full integration Ireland too had the dilema of what to do about a region being torn apart by sectarian and state sponsored violence.
However a good deal of the motivation for violence and conflict decreases as employment and prosperity increase.
People whom I spoke too here often say that they sometimes feel like prisoners in their own country and I can understand this feeling, it is the same in any region which such strict border controls and such a large number of police.
However if Serbia joined the EU these feelings of being trapped and have very few opportunities would begin to decrase and I know from personal experience of Ireland that this leads to widespread social change in a positive direction.
I think that if people here turn against EU membership due to bad political leadership or misinformation, that this will be a tragedy which shall escalate the violence and feelings of uncertainty that many Serbs have expressed concerning the future.

I am 27 and work in I.T in Novi Sad. All the young people I talk to would NOT give up our cultural heritage by giving up Kosovo. We stood on the bridges with target T-shirts for Nato to shoot, so NO, we have NOT changed our minds! Regardless of whether we join EU or not, the serbian economy is growing fast (just under 6%) and the future is bright. The EU is over-rated as many upscale and prosperous countries have refused to join. Lazer, I think you need to get some accurate information about economics and politics, plus you don't live here so...

This are two issues not related to one another, Kosova will became Idependent regardlees E.U, and Serbia will became a member of the union regardles of Kosova solutin.Any poll to relate them is waste of time.

Hope your enjoying your stay in our world class city. I am sure you are finding out that Beograd is a cosmopolitan city which pulsates with ethnic diversity and energy, just like the big apple.

I would like to remind you that Serbian citizens are quite sophisticated in choosing their leaders and influencing policy at all levels. We are a truly democratic people.

What we wish for everyone to undertand is that we will not be blackmailed to enter the EU while trading off Kosovo or even one inch of our territory.

Recent polls reveal that we are in favour of the EU but NOT at any cost.

I would rather eat my mother's bean soup everyday (pasulj) and live a humble life, than have foreign masters dictating how I should live.

You will also come across the serbian Motto: "Freedom or Death!" This consciousness is deeply ingrained in our ethos, so we would rather be dead than compromise our serbian culture. We know exactly who we are.
