Surroi is gathering support for an independent Kosovo. It has NOTHING to do with any religion. It is nothing wrong to do that ie. getting support. That what diplomacy is about. You try to convince others to support your line.

layla, you are dead wrong. neither can serbia submit resolutions. you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the issue.

J.Ham,
I am sure you would love for that to happen in Kosovo. But, people of Kosovo don't want that to happen. This move by Surroi can only be seen as an attempt to gather as much votes as possible in case the issue is voted in the General Assembly of the UN.

"but serbia is the legal successor of all FRY agreements."
Nice try, but the RESOLUTIONS have to recognize this essential change. If it does not, Kosova and other parties are not bound to any resolution or treaty or pact relating to self dissolved union of republics of yugoslavia. If serbia elects to do this, it will be required to submit a new resolution making this clear to all parties involved obliged by 'decree' of voting members to recognize this 'switch'. Otherwise, you can also count on the CG declaration that there is NO GOING BACK TO PRE 1999 STATUS. This includes reformulating a 'fed. rep. of yugoslavia',too.

If Kosovo sells out to the Arab league then it must give something in return. Nothing is free this days so i guess kosovo will become an islamic republic and all the women must cover themselves that means no more short skirts and exposed midriffs. i bet that will go over good in Kosovo. More rules to follow.

Yugoslavia was renamed the Serbia-Montenegro union under the EU-brokered agreement in 2003 between Serbia and Montenegro. Under this agreement, Serbia would become the successor state to Serbia-Montenegro if the union should dissolve. When Montenegro became independent, Serbia kept her UN seat as the successor (and inherited all the rights and obligations pertaining to Yugoslavia) while Montenegro had to apply to be a new UN member. So Serbia's rights under 1244 is in no way diminished by her merely changing her constitution to exclude Montenegro.
If your analogy is correct, then Russia should no longer be in the UN, not to mention a permanent member of the Security Council, when the Soviet Union imploded.

To blag,
The "legal mechanism" the CG and the Albanians have in their favor is the Sec. Coun. Res. 1244. In it, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was 'determined' to be the state that Kosovo was under, in terms of jurisdiction, and in relation to the status determination.
When Kostunica asked his people to vote in a new mandated constitution calling for Serbian 'sovereignty' over Kosovo, it changed the essence of Res. 1244. NOW, the sec. councial would have to vote in a NEW resolution recognizing Serbia's 'soverignty over Kosovo. Considering FRY dissolved when Montenegro split. So, I think the Serbian, unwittingly were convinced to mandate a new constitution that negated 1244's claim of FRY's sovereignty over Kosovo.
This same CG called for never returning Kosovo to a 'pre 1999" status. Correlating correctly to Serbia's new independent status. Losing Kosovo forever for the mistake of 'dissolving' the Fed. Rep. of Yugoslavia.
Yes, the Albanians have the mandate for separation from Serbia's own newly independent constitution and CG's declaration for Kosovo earlier this year and especially in UN Res. 1244.
Thank you Serbia for creating the newly independent Serbia and its constitution and as a by product, check mating itself out of Kosovo. :)

yes of course venton, the arab league is going to determine european foreign policy. sounds like desperation to me. by the way... still doesn't change the fact that there is no legal mechnanism thus far.

Its seems to me that some of the Arab League nations are themselves in disarray at the moment. Iraq is occupied by Nato and is in danger of being partitioned into Kurd, Sunni and Shite Muslim areas. Lebanon is facing a crisis between the Christian-supported government and Herzbollah. And Palestine is facing a financial crunch because of EU sanctions on its Hamas-led governemnt.
