Observing the E.U. from the U.S. and the geopolitics of conflict within the Union, Serbia would be insane to sell its sovereignty to Brussels. Best route is sovereign, neutrality, economically work with nations that will not interfere with states internal affairs such as changing monetary, constitution, and cultural norms. Yugoslavia was offered in the 80s a easy back door entry to the the EEC at the time but refused. Why, they foresaw the current situation back then. Yugoslavia was a non aligned member while all of the former soviet republics were under harsh dictatorship and saw the west as their saviour.
