Road tolls in rep Serbia growing like mushrooms.
Big money. Let us hope they ploughed it back by maintaining roads and improving safety.

I drive From Belfast to Dublin 100 mile, 161 KM. I encounter one toll at a cost Euro 1.90 cent. Can anyone tell me the equivalent in Serbia for the same distance. I have travelled a to Novi Sad and it seems to me that there is an endless number of tolls a hugely extortionate prices.

From Paraćin to Belgrade -- a distance of 162km -- the toll cost for a standard passenger car is 5.5€ for our sub-par autoput.

There are various forms of public private partnership deals involving road infrastructure and if prices are low that generally signals its subsidized by the government.
In your case it would be more appropriate to say the EU does the subsidy.
I have recently been to the US and passed through three toll booths on stretch of highway covering no more than 150 miles and the tariff was not cheap at any point.
The purpose of all these new roads is not so much for the local community but much needed investment in Serbia. If your transport infrastructure is not up to par no one will invest.

Political browny points for the ruling political class.

For the common person, the highway can be a big blessing. But the remaining problem is that most people cannot afford to drive on the highway.
