Unlike the 90's when West was the only one that had influence in the Balkans making it risk-free.
We do remember 90's so you might change this to „The growing influence of these states poses real risks for our interests" and stop pretending that you are concerned about Balkans.
Yugoslavia was destroyed, yes, they killed each other but the former Slav Republics must put aside their differences and unite as one but more autonomous with a united foreign voice and band together. The EU West Golden footpath is a big myth. A united Yugoslavia was hard to break under Tito from USSR and the NATO West. If Tito could do it, why can't the future Slavs do it?
